Remember Luke Skywalker’s hovercraft from the first Star Wars movie? Well it just became reality with the opening of pre-orders for the Aero-X Hoverbike ($85,000). The Hoverbike gets its lift from two fixed-pitch carbon fiber fans driven by a rotary engine. Because it can float up to 10 feet off the ground you can go most places a road vehicle can’t. Maxiumum speed is 45 miles per hour and is intuitive to drive. You can learn over a weekend. Additional features include vertical take-offs, eliminating the need for runways, engine redundancy, and optional whole vehicle air bags.
