Too many movies sugar coat things and make it look unrealistic. Drugstore Cowboy ($8) is not one of those movies. Directed by Gus Von Sant and starring Matt Dillon, Kelly Lynch, and James LeGros, this movie is a realistic road film about a drug addict’s life, his ‘family’, and the group’s inevitable downward spiral into crime. Men who prefer the more realistic movies will appreciate the brilliance of this movie because it doesn’t gloss over anything or rely on unrealistic expectations on the part of the audience. This is something that sets it apart from other movies of this genre and helps it continue to be relevant today.
