The Garmin Vivosmart ($170) may have hit the nail on the head. It’s a combination fitness tracker plus smartwatch. When paired with your smartphone, it automatically vibrates and displays a message when you receive texts, emails, or calls. You can swipe the band to receive additional information. When not in use the band kind of looks like a Live Strong band with a blank screen. But when you tap the band the OLED screen comes to life to display your steps, distance traveled, calories burned, time and more. One of the coolest features is the inactivity reminder. If you haven’t moved for over an hour the band will vibrate to let you know you need to get going. Once you’ve walked for a couple of minutes the timer will reset. This keeps your body’s production of fat-burning enzymes at a healthy level. Additional features include a battery that will last up to 7 days and a 5 ATM (50 meters) water rating, so it’s safe in the shower or pool.
