Microsoft has just revealed that it will be jumping into the virtual reality game. Microsoft will partner with well-known tech brands like Asus, Dell, and Lenovo to create Microsoft Partner VR Headsets ($299) which will utilize the Windows 10 Creators Update expected to be released next year. The headsets will start at $299 and move up.
The headsets are expected to be introduced in December with a release date sometime in spring 2017.
No specs are currently available but the headsets will utilize technology from Microsoft’s HoloLens project which will enable the headsets to work without a complicated setup like Oculus Rift which requires external sensors placed throughout the room. The headset will include six degrees of freedom and inside-out tracking internally.
Now don’t expect an Oculus Rift experience for $299. More than likely you’ll have to upgrade to a much higher price point to get the same experience as Oculus Rift.
