Every so often a movie comes along without a great deal of hype that captures the imagination of the nation and makes everyone sit up and take notice. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest ($4) is one such movie that almost 40 years later still makes an impact with its mixture of comedy, pathos and tragedy. Jack Nicholson in a pivotal early role is the guy committed to the asylum who rallies his fellow inmates into a mutiny against the dreaded nurse Ratchett. If ever a movie deserved to be called a classic it’s this one.
Imagine living in the 25th century and you don’t like the rules so you decide to rebel against them and this results in an oft overlooked gem from George Lucas. THX-1138 ($17) centers around a man and woman who are seriously pissed at the rules that have been set out for them to live by. […]
