Well, it looks like Volvo is about to release its own Tesla killer with the Polestar 1 Coupe ($150K+). Polestar is the performance division of Volvo and the Polestar won’t disappoint in that department. It’s a hybrid that uses the internal combustion engine for an extra boost and as a backup and has three electric motors that deliver 600 horses and 1000 Nm of torque. Its electric-only range is 93 miles. Of course, it will also come with the latest tech and the best appointments.
Although the price is given, you more than likely won’t be able to buy the Polestar outright. It will be offered through Volvo’s subscription program. The program will include a monthly payment, insurance, and car rental services. After two or three years it will go back to Polestar for refurbishment and made available through a “pre-owned” subscription term.
Only 500 of these will be made and production isn’t expected to start until mid-2019.
