I’ve loved the idea of prefab homes for a number of years and some of my favorites are created by LivingHomes out of California. The company was started by Steve Glenn who wanted to create prefabricated homes that “feature modern form and functionality and an unprecedented level of healthy/sustainability materials and energy systems”. He uses world renowned Architects like Ray Kappe and Kieran Timberlake, to make his vision a reality.
The Ray Kappe LivingHomes RK1 ($600K) home was the first home created by Architect Ray Kappe and is Steve Glenn’s primary residence. The RK1 uses approximately 11 modules that weigh about half a ton each. It was assembled in just eight hours in 2006 and represents Steves vision of creating homes that offer great form and functionality, are healthy to live in, and are extremely respectful of the environment and the communities in which they are built. You can get the RK1 with 4-5 bedrooms, 2.5-3.5 baths, and 2,560-3,100 square feet. There is also over 1,435 square feet of decking plus a multitude of upgrades available.
