In Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed ($41), the photographer esteemed Frederic Chaubin reveals ninety buildings located in fourteen former Soviet Republics that display what could be considered as the 4th age of Soviet architecture. These buildings reveal an unexpected rejuvenation of imagination, an unknown and unexpected burgeoning that took place in the two decades between 1970 and 1990. As opposed to the 1920’s and 1930’s there was no main trend or school for thought here. They represent the chaotic impulses of the architects that were brought about country collapsing through decay and their diversity effectively announced the end of the almighty Soviet Union.
